About the role:
Ampol’s Data, Analytics & AI team harness our data to act faster, make better decisions, elevate our service to our customers and drive growth through improved operations and innovation
The DataOps Lead will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of data operations infrastructure and processes for the Ampol Group. As the architect and driver of our DataOps strategy, this role will design and implement scalable, resilient, and automated data operations systems that empower our teams to make faster, smarter decisions.
You’ll take us further by:
- Identify opportunities to optimise the data engineering practice utilising latest technologies and best practice to improve the efficient, quality and maturity of data Engineering across the group
- Responsible for design of DevOps and Software Engineering best practices, Version control, Naming standards and deployment across environments across Ampol Group
- Design robust pipelines and implement strategies for reliable and scalable data pipelines.
- Automate data workflows and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
- Setting up guidelines to track data pipeline performance and quickly address any issues.
- Collaborate closely with Data Architects, data engineers, data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to Continuously optimizing data systems for performance and scalability
- Lead continuous improvement efforts—evaluating new tools, championing best practices, and upskilling team members in DataOps excellence.
We’d love it if you have:
- Demonstrated expertise as a Lead Data Engineer, Lead DevOps/DataOps and developing the capabilities of data engineering practices
- Deep understanding of data management principles, data pipelines deployment, data quality and testing design.
- Experience building DataOps maturity within an organization
- Skilled in DataOps and DevOps tools and technologies such as GitHub, Git Actions, Azure DevOps Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes, Docker, and Jenkins. Expertise in SQL and Python is a must.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
- Proficient with modern data platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks.
- Experience with orchestration and workflow management, such as Apache Airflow or dbt Cloud.
- Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, YAML, and Powershell scripting.
