About the role:

 

As Ampol embarks on an ambitious digital transformation, we are increasingly leveraging digital applications, data engineering products, and cutting-edge enterprise solutions to enhance our operations, elevate customer interactions, and drive innovation. To lead this pivotal change, we are seeking a visionary General Manager Data, Analytics and AI.

 

In this strategic role, you will develop and execute a comprehensive Data, Analytics, and AI strategy aligned with our Technology, Digital, and Data (TDD) framework. Your leadership will ensure that our applications and products are not only functional but also scalable, reliable, and of the highest quality—positioning Ampol as a market leader.

 

The GM, Data, Analytics and AI will influence and guide our approach to harnessing data-driven insights that make Ampol easier to do business with and within. You will engage with senior stakeholders to establish the Group Data, Analytics, and AI function, laying the foundation for a data-centric culture across our operating regions and businesses.

 

Reporting to the Executive General Manager of Tech, Digital, and Data, this role is essential to driving our vision forward. You’ll take us further by:

 

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to shape and implement a strategic vision that propels the data function forward, aligning it with Ampol’s ambitious goals.
  • Lead the design, development, and execution of the Group Data, Analytics, and AI strategy. Transform our data assets into powerful, actionable insights that drive decision-making and innovation.
  • Partner with the Tech, Digital and Data Leadership Team to establish robust frameworks for the ethical and responsible use of AI, ensuring that Ampol leads the way in smart, transparent technology deployment.
  • Create a data roadmap, data products that drive commercial outcomes
  • Build and sustain a Data Communities of Practice that empower teams across Ampol to harness data easily, fostering a culture of collaboration and value creation.
  • Lead and mentor a geographically distributed Data Practice, fostering an inclusive culture that celebrates innovation and collaboration across all locations.
  • Work closely with business units across the Ampol Group to create and maintain comprehensive data models, repositories, and attributes that underpin key platforms like Databricks and Snowflake, enabling seamless integration and insight.
  • Identify and evaluate market trends, competitive dynamics, and emerging technologies to inform strategic initiatives and maintain Ampol’s edge in a rapidly evolving landscape.
  • Create a culture of empowerment to tackle complex challenges, make strategic decisions, and inspire and challenge your team to think critically and act swiftly, implementing systematic solutions that drive efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Drive the successful delivery of programs within the data function, making decisive moves that align with our strategic vision and operational goals, ensuring we maximise impact and efficiency.

 

We’d love it if you have:

 

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing data, analytics, and AI strategies across enterprise
  • Demonstrated experience building a data practice in an enterprise environment, across multiple geographies and cultures 
  • Experience working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to foster a data-driven culture across the organization.
  • Strong background in data, governance, and analytics, with hands-on experience in transforming data into actionable insights.
  • Understanding of AI technologies and their ethical implications, with a track record of establishing frameworks for responsible AI usage.
  • Proven ability to identify and assess market trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging technologies to inform strategic decisions.
  • Proven experience developing a commercial framework for demonstrating the value delivered from data initiatives
  • Exceptional enterprise leadership capabilities – with a focus on developing teams that are empowered to solve problems and drive results
  • Diverse industry exposure, across complex enterprise organisations
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Data Science, Analytics, AI or related fields
