About the role

 

We are looking for a Grid Connections lead responsible for developing and managing Ampol’s relationships and engagement with Electricity NSPs within Australia and New Zealand. The position will enable the execution of our Energy Solutions strategy whilst ensuring timely, cost effective and efficient electricity grid connections for our electrical assets including EV Charging, Solar and Battery.

 

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • Develop and implement a strategic grid connections process with each Distribution Network Service Provider for Energy Solutions assets at an operational level.
  • Maintain alignment at operational levels between Energy Solutions and NSPs.
  • Negotiate grid connections with NSPs to achieve the best outcome for the Group and ensure compliance with energy market requirements in Australia or New Zealand.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, grid impact assessments, and system impact studies to identify and address grid connection challenges.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to develop grid connection strategies and ensure seamless project execution.
  • Ensure the business understands the NSPs drivers and manages these to deliver outcomes that are mutually beneficial. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with all NSPs to ensure Energy Solutions is at the forefront.
  • First point of contact for NSPs as they engage with Energy Solutions regarding grid connection activities.
  • Manage and negotiate grid connection agreements, contracts, and permits with relevant authorities.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and technological advancements related to grid connection in the renewable energy sector and make recommendations on where improvements can be made within Energy Solutions space.

We are looking for candidates with comprehensive knowledge of the energy landscape in Australia, NSPs, and their key drivers; to leverage relationships and manage strong strategic outcomes and projects for Ampol.

 

The vacancy is open to applications in Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane and willing to travel/attend different client visits and/or conferences all over the country and NZ.

 

 

Key skills and experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or Tertiary qualification in business, project, economics or finance.
  • Commercial and negotiation experience with electricity network service providers.
  • Experience in developing and managing strategic relationships with stakeholders for the development of generation, distribution networks, and grid connections projects in Australia.
  • Proven ability to engage and collaborate with other related stakeholders as vendors, business owners, customers, government and internal stakeholder to achieve strategic goals for Ampol.
  • Strong engagement skills.
