About the Role

Reporting to the Reliability Manager, the Reliability Team Lead plays a key role in the Asset Operations team. Responsible for leading a team of reliability specialists and overseeing the ongoing reliability and performance of energy solutions assets across Australia and NZ, including electric vehicle charging solutions, solar installations and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

This role will manage resources, personnel, and parts to deliver maintenance plans efficiently and minimise downtime, while overseeing the 24/7 operation of the fleet and responding to incidents as needed. The role ensures the safe and reliable operation of Ampol’s energy assets across Australia and New Zealand through effective monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance. A strong focus on safety and contractor management is essential, along with proficiency in systems such as CMMS, CPMS, and other diagnostic platforms.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team of Reliability Specialists to deliver on key performance metrics, including safety, uptime, session reliability, and asset availability.
  • Oversee the development and execution of maintenance plans, ensuring safe and timely completion, accurate capture of reactive work, and continuous improvement of monitoring systems and processes.
  • Manage OPEX budgets for preventative and reactive maintenance, forecasting spend and identifying opportunities for cost savings and performance enhancement.
  • Oversee and support resolution of system outages and incident investigations, ensuring effective fault identification, escalation, and resolution to minimise downtime.
  • Manage contractor relationships through governance meetings, audits, compliance verification, and performance reporting to ensure safety and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Risk & Safety, Engineering, and Quality Assurance to strengthen asset management strategies and reliability performance.
  • Work with the Public and Private Network teams to ensure excellent customer experience across all Ampol and customer fleets.
  • Analyse data to monitor asset and contractor performance, support firmware updates, and drive continuous improvement across the Energy Solutions fleet.

 

About you

You are hands-on and have demonstrated leadership capability, solutions-focused with a strong track record in reliability and maintenance planning, particularly within distributed asset environments.

You bring a practical understanding of asset performance and demonstrate the ability to manage maintenance activities across complex systems—ideally with exposure to electrical infrastructure or the EV sector.

You are confident managing third-party contractors, promoting a strong safety culture, and ensuring all work is delivered to a high standard. You work effectively across teams to deliver safe, reliable, cost-effective, and compliant operations. You are driven and committed to achieving results and operational excellence.

 

Skills and Attributes

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and manage contractors effectively while driving a culture of safety and accountability
  • Proven experience in reliability and planning roles, preferably involving distributed energy assets such as EV chargers, solar systems, or BESS
  • Skilled in using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), with SAP experience preferred
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding capabilities across electrical assets, with hands-on knowledge of maintenance and repair practices
  • Electrical/instrumentation trade qualifications and/or tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering or related fields preferred
