About the role:  

Ampol’s Data, Analytics & AI team harness our data to act faster, make better decisions, elevate our service to our customers and drive growth through improved operations and innovation  

The Solution Architect Data will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing robust data and AI solutions across the Ampol Group, and will be responsible for establishing and evolving architecture design patterns across the Ampol Group. By leveraging expertise in data platforms, cloud platforms and AI technologies, this role will ensure alignment of data architecture with Ampol’s strategic goals, acting as a visionary leader able to bridge the gap between business need and technical implementations and building the Group Data Architecture capability.    

You’ll take us further by:  

• Drive the implementation of Data and AI solutions, leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning and AI technologies to delivery business value aligning with our strategic vision.  

• Partner with business stakeholders and technology teams to translate complex requirements into effective data, analytics, and AI-driven solutions and evolve Group patterns  

• Design and evolve scalable, secure, and high-performance architectures across cloud platforms 

• Provide technical leadership and hands-on guidance to data engineers, AI specialists, and analytics teams across the Ampol Group. 

• Leverage expertise of data platforms like Databricks and Snowflake, to enable data teams to build and manage data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses. 

• Integrate AI technologies into data architecture to enhance data analytics and business intelligence capabilities across the Ampol Group 

• Champion best practices in data governance, security, privacy, and regulatory compliance. 

• Create and maintain design patterns, frameworks, and standards to accelerate solution delivery and reusability. 

• Communicate architectural concepts and strategic vision clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. 

• Drive innovation and stay up to date with industry trends —bringing new ideas and evaluating technologies that can improve our architecture and accelerate our data maturity.  

We’d love it if you have:   

• Proven experience as a Solution Architect/Data Architect, ideally with experience in transformative environments 

• Extensive experience with cloud platforms, particularly Azure and designing scalable, secure, and high-performance data architectures 

• Deep experience with modern data platforms, including Databricks, Snowflake, and related technologies. 

• Experience transitioning AI solutions from proof of concept to production, ensuring scalability, reliability and maintainability 

• Expertise in Data Modelling, SQL, Phyton and transform tools such as dbt would be beneficial. 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate designs and solutions to both business and technology teams. 

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically across enterprise.  

• Experience working with geo-distributed teams with differing needs in data residency and compliance.  

• Agility and resilience – thriving in fast-paced environments, managing competing priorities without losing sight of quality or strategic goals.
