Procurement Business Analyst

Primary Purpose of the Position

Proactively investigate, gather and report on relevant procurement data and information (performance, categories, contracts, supply market, suppliers or orders) to support the procurement team. This includes the provision of high-level, detailed or complex analysis.


Critical Accountabilities & Outcomes 

Data Analytics and Reporting

  • Prepare periodic reports (using Power BI, Excel, Sharepoint, PPT) for Procurement and other stakeholders such as Spend Dashboard, Late PO, Contract Leakage and other value added information
  • Perform data analytics to identify data mismatch and opportunity such as contract value leakage, compliance, vendor consolidation, etc...
  • Lead tactical procurement initiatives to deliver value to the business
  • Plan and support supplier performance reviews, including providing all necessary analytical and administrative support to these reviews
  • Support the procurement team in calculating the procurement benefits from identification to capture (Finance monitors the realisation of the benefits)
  • Conduct analysis of spend and supply markets

Operational support, administration and governance

  • Provide system support for the team where required
  • Review purchase orders and spend commitments to ensure compliance to policies and agreed strategies
  • Educate business partners on procurement policies and practices
  • Manage activities in relation to supplier management and governance (ie. Supplier Code of Conduct; payment Times Reporting Scheme and other related programs)
  • Identify, report and escalate governance risks
  • Perform research on market, supplier, technology, processes, including development of industry knowledge
  • Support the category and sourcing teams in developing category and/or supplier workshops, as well as category, contract and supplier strategies.

Deliver Sustained Relevant Value to Business Partners

  • Lead market and supplier investigations, identifying synergies and opportunities by performing complex data analysis across the procurement value chain
  • Advise and recommend category, contract and supplier activities/opportunities
  • Conduct measurement and reporting to support continuous improvement programs

Leadership, People and Culture

  • Leverage experience and subject matter knowledge to support the team and deliver outcomes
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders across Ampol entities and external parties.
  • Stay abreast of developments within the Procurement  profession.
  • Be a role mode, set expectations and guide delivery of procurement activities


Procurement profile preferred however not mandatory (e.g. operations, finance, management consultant)



  • Essential: Sourcing, contract administrator or procurement or other relevant analyst role;
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft Power BI and advanced Excel
  • Minimum 5 years in Procurement or similar based role

Knowledge & Skills

  • Working experience with financial information processing systems/applications (e.g. SAP, eSourcing platforms).
  • Working knowledge on e-Sourcing platforms
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Broad knowledge of Ampol organization and its areas of operation.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels in the Business.
  • Willingness to take on new tasks as the company grows and evolves.
