About the role
Reporting to the Health and Safety Lead, the Safety and Wellbeing Business Partner will partner with the business to ensure the safety and wellbeing strategy is effectively implemented and monitored within our Ampol Retail business. Focus will be placed on driving the right culture, managing risks and compliance, reducing injuries, and improving the overall safety and performance in the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the implementation of the workplace safety management plan for the division which supports the organisation-wide plan, implementation of initiatives preventing/minimising workplace injuries and supporting the application of corrective actions when investigating incidents.
- Ensure effective management of change across the business to mitigate safety and business risk, as well as implement effective controls designed and operated in compliance with companywide frameworks, applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
- Lead investigations for incidents and support the operations team with operation readiness checks, as well as undertake risk assessment of tasks and equipment to minimise workplace injuries and ill health.
- Coordinate and undertake hazard identification, inspections and job hazard analysis.
- Develop and review documents, procedures, work instructions and safe work method statements.
- Monitor compliance with workplace policies and procedures including partnering with the business to periodically audit & review the effective performance and compliance of contractors with respect to health and safety.
- Partner, coach and consult with the business on safety plans and initiatives to ensure buy in and fit for business, as well as provide specialist advice and technical management support to the business through coaching and influencing, including operation-based audits.
- Provide input to key reports such as Head of Health, Safety and Security, whilst also consulting and communicating with key stakeholders.
- Provide trend analysis and insight to the business to make informed decisions and drive action.
- Encourage prompt reporting of hazards and incidents and ensure appropriate records are maintained.
- Work with the business to ensure that safety roles, responsibilities and expectations are understood and adhered to by the business, whilst supporting managers in activities to foster a positive safety culture.
- Partner with the Retail Training team to provide safety subject matter expertise into development of safety training.
About you
You will be a subject matter expert, playing a critical role in partnering with the retail business around all Safety and Wellbeing areas, whilst also role modelling expected behaviours within the team and organisation. You will have the capability to engage and build strong internal and external stakeholder partnerships to achieve all Safety and Wellbeing outcomes. You will have the ability to work in highly ambiguous situations and ensure the strategy around Safety and Wellbeing within operations is effectively managed and delivered. This role would suit a highly experienced Safety and Wellbeing individual with strong knowledge around WHS. Experience working within a similar Retail, FMCG or convenience background is desirable. Multi-tasking, strong written and communication skills, with the ability to liaise, coach, influence, drive change and facilitate purposeful conversations with various stakeholders whilst holding accountability in the role is a must.
Key skills and experience
- Proven Health and Safety related experience in in a similar field (highly desirable from a retail operations field, ideally with a Retail/FMCG/convenience background).
- Evident experience in building health and safety capability in large organisations.
- High level ability to influence, coach and drive change, as well as a negotiation, prioritisation, and planning skill set.
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience for areas such as risk management, incident investigation, legalisation, safety management system design and implementation.
- Sound commercial acumen and the ability to make balanced risk decisions.
- Able to foster positive and effective relationships within Ampol and with regulators.
- Ability to multi-task and display strong written and verbal communication, consultation, and organisational skills.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
- Project management skills to enable leadership projects.
- Intermediate to advanced MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams skills required.
- Ability to travel away from home for short business trips as required and drivers’ license and vehicle.
