About the role
The Finance Business Partner will be a pivotal member of the finance team in Trading and Shipping, responsible for overseeing accounting and reporting, tax compliance, and settlements function in the US office. This multifaceted role requires a seasoned finance professional with a strong understanding of both financial management principles and the unique dynamics of the oil and gas industry. The appointed individual will:
Oversee the financial activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulations, and adherence to best practices.
Play a crucial role in decision-making by providing financial insights to senior management and supporting strategic business initiatives and projects.
Manage the invoice booking and verification process for cargo, freight and ancillary invoices for Ampol USA.
Act as key business partner to the trading desks and collaborate with other departments to streamline processes and optimize resources.
Key responsibilities
Accounting, Reporting and Settlements:
- Ensure the delivery of accurate and timely financial reports,
- Handle budgeting, forecasting, or other significant financial functions in Ampol US,
- Collaborate with various teams to ensure seamless execution of net debt plans at half year and year end,
- Ensure invoices are received and sent on time by monitoring due dates for both incoming and outgoing commodity shipments,
- Manage and process invoices for commodity purchases and sales, freight, ancillary and demurrage,
- Verify quantities, prices and manage related payment documents if needed.
Tax Compliance:
- Collate data and liaise with external consultants to ensure timely and accurate filings of Sales & Use Tax, federal excise and other state fuel taxes,
- Prepare withholding tax reports and payments as required,
- Assist (data collation and analysis) the Trading & Shipping Tax Manager with the preparation of federal and state income tax returns.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors as required,
- Streamline processes, implement controls to mitigate risks and maintain the integrity of financial records.
Qualifications & experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- CA/CPA certification preferred
- 7+ years of relevant experience in Finance, Management Accounting in the oil and gas industry and prior audit experience in chartered accounting firm
- US tax filings, settlements and forensic accounting
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and tax regulations
- Strong MS Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Experience with SAP and CTRM system
- Excellent analytical skills, hands-on and pay attention to details,
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and influence decision-making
- Self-motivated, can successfully identify process and business improvements and drive them through to a successful conclusion
- Experience in Business Case development
- Comfortable working in a changing environment
