About the Role:
The Project Controls will lead implementation of the Brisbane Renewable Fuels Project suite to deliver greenfield biofuels production facility and associated balance of plant at Ampol’s Lytton Refinery. You will lead the Project Controls function in the Brisbane Renewable Fuels Project, which will include planning & scheduling, cost, risk, reporting and document control.
The role will be based initially in our Valley Office with travel to our site at Lytton.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation and delivery of project controls deliverables, including estimates, schedules, and cost inputs across all project stages, in compliance with Ampol’s PAA process.
- Develop and manage project controls plans, performance reporting, and ensure integration of regulatory and planning submissions into the overall strategy.
- Provide strategic support to the Project Manager on planning, estimating, contracting, and the development of HSE management systems.
- Build, resource, and lead a high-performing project controls team, ensuring role clarity, accountability, and alignment with project objectives.
- Manage critical interfaces across Ampol, including Finance and business systems, to drive effective coordination and delivery.
About you:
You’re a proven leader in project controls, with experience overseeing reporting, cost control, estimation, scheduling, and risk management across major projects. You excel at developing and managing project KPIs, estimates, and schedules, while ensuring compliance with Delegation of Authority guidelines. With a strong focus on team performance and growth, you’re skilled at guiding and developing high-performing teams and managing risk reporting in both project and construction environments.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Proven experience in project controls for large, complex hydrocarbon projects (LNG, Refining, or similar), with a strong focus on brownfield scopes in a client-side environment
- Deep expertise in project execution, shutdowns (T&I), operations, maintenance, and reliability, with hands-on experience in cost, schedule, and quality control systems
- Strong understanding of HSE practices within an Australian context, risk engineering principles, and experience assessing EPC contractor payment claims
- Demonstrated leadership with a focus on stakeholder engagement, problem-solving, and the ability to implement project document control systems in client-side environments
- A relevant tertiary qualification is essential; professional accreditation and experience in project estimating will be highly regarded
