About the role:

Reporting to the Head of Terminals Australia, the Terminal Manager role will provide leadership and single point accountability for the Kurnell Terminal to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient operations and ensure safe management of products to meet customer needs.  You will play a key role in implementing and operating key systems, processes, and procedures.

This position is located at the Kurnell Terminal in NSW and is responsible for providing leadership to the Terminal, including a team of 40 operators and specialists, as well as supporting an on-site team with up to 200 people on site each day, including engineering, maintenance, operations, and other contractors.

The role offers a unique opportunity to lead a unique Terminal, with Kurnell being Australia’s largest fuel import terminal. Your strong leadership skills and operational excellence will be critical in driving the delivery of the Distribution business plan objectives through a high performing team.

The Kurnell Terminal is currently undertaking a large-scale operations enhancement program targeted at improving our operational discipline in Distribution by implementing systems and processes that enable us to deliver on our commitment to operate safely and reliably. This role is critical to the successful implementation of the program.

The position plays a critical role in the Terminal Leadership Team, driving the success, direction, culture and continuous improvement across the Australia wide Distribution business.

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • Management and Leadership of a large team operating 24/7
  • Achieve Incident and Injury Free performance and lead Operational Excellence objectives by championing and stewarding safe working practices
  • Cultivate an open, inclusive and diverse working environment, develop and mentor top talent
  • Be a visible and approachable leader by conducting regular engagements in the field seeking feedback and input, and participate in business initiatives and programs
  • Ensure cost effective and efficient management of assets and expenditure
  • Ensure asset reliability through an effective maintenance, testing and inspection program.
  • Ensure employees and contractors apply safe systems, processes and procedures and ensure robust risk management is achieved through compliance and governance.
  • Capability to manage emergency response situations.
  • Apply systems, process and procedures that deliver operational efficiency that results in national consistency, standardisation, and no rework.

 

About you:

You are an experienced operations professional with a strong track record of successfully managing operations, particularly in the areas of commercial performance, transformational change, process safety, and maintenance. Your commercial acumen enables you to monitor operations to ensure cost efficiency and expenditure control.

As a natural leader, you excel at building and leading high-performing operations teams by fostering a culture of development, collaboration, and motivation.

With a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, we are seeking someone who can build strong relationships and consistently place customer service and safety at the core of everything we do.

 

Key skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualified in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or a related discipline and significant industry/operations experience in fuels or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in the safe operation of a major hazard facility or large-scale site in the petroleum industry or other major hazard environments
  • Strong understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Management systems
  • Excellent communication and persuasive skills individually and within a team - verbal and written to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to lead and influence transformational change and effectively collaborate with cross functional groups
  • Ability to work in a cross functional manner to ensure the best outcome for the enterprise and the community in which we operate within
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and manage complex internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to focus and generate team commitment to achieving results
  • Sound judgement to balance safe performance with sound cost management and customer service
  • Strong organisational skills ability to prioritise and work in a changing environment in a cross functional environment.
  • Champion and deliver continuous improvement initiatives.
