About the role:

As the Safety & Hygiene Superintendent, you will provide strategic leadership across all safety and industrial hygiene functions at our Lytton Refinery. You’ll drive the implementation and continuous improvement of site-wide safety standards and systems, ensuring full alignment with regulatory requirements and organizational objectives.
 

This is a key role in shaping a proactive safety culture embedding human factors principles, critical risk management, and behavioural change initiatives across the site. Your expertise will help foster a safe, compliant, and high-performing workplace where people and performance thrive.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and governance of site-wide safety and hygiene standards, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance with ISO 45001.
  • Provide expert guidance and direction to a team of Safety and Hygiene Specialists, driving alignment with operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Govern incident investigation processes, ensuring robust root cause analysis and the effective implementation of corrective actions.
  • Oversee and deliver annual safety and hygiene programs, including critical risk management, system assurance, contractor safety management, hygiene monitoring, and health risk assessment updates.
  • Drive the long-term integration of the Safety Culture Model and Human Factors frameworks to elevate safety maturity and operational resilience.

 

About You

You are a seasoned HSE professional with expertise in managing safety and hygiene functions in high-risk, heavy industrial environments.
You will bring a strategic mindset, strong leadership capability, and the ability to influence cultural and behavioural change at all organisational levels and thrive in a complex operational setting. Developing your direct reports is a passion for you.

Your focus on proactive safety, human factors integration, and operational excellence will set you apart as a trusted advisor and leader.

 To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Extensive experience in high-risk, heavy industrial sectors such as oil & gas, minerals processing, or power generation.
  • Proven leadership in managing and developing WHS and Industrial Hygiene teams, including strategic planning and capability development.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 45001, regulatory frameworks, and compliance management within complex industrial operations.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing safety culture and human factors models to drive proactive safety behaviours.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety, Occupational Hygiene, or a related discipline, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
