About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Fire Protection & Emergency Response Specialist to bring expertise and strategic guidance to the Ampol Lytton Refinery in fire safety, emergency preparedness, and oil spill response.
In this role, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring the availability and operational readiness of all fire protection, emergency response, and oil spill response equipment and systems; including procuring and managing portable, mobile, and fixed assets by working closely with Queensland Fire Department, Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ), Australian Oil Spill Response Centre (AMOSC) and other agencies driving comprehensive training and emergency exercises that support overall safety and response readiness of the site. Key responsibilities:
- Provide expert guidance to personnel during training, exercises and incidents as a Senior Member of the Refinery Emergency Response Team (RIMT)
- Provide front line specialist response capabilities to all potential Major Incidents that could occur onsite.
- First responder for Initial Injury Management and treatment.
- Lead the Oil Spill Response Team (OSRT) to ensure operational readiness and integration with emergency response processes (~25 Oil Spill Response Team Members)
- Permit issuing within the defined Emergency Response Area’s.
- Performance monitoring of the Refinery fire protection, emergency response and oil spill response and recovery systems and equipment to always ensure operational readiness
- Supervision of Fire Technicians that are responsible for the AS1851 test, inspect and maintenance contract for Fire Protection Systems.
- Development, implementation and communication of all Fire Mitigation plans for planned fire system isolations, live line work, CUI work and fireproofing removal.
- Delivery of technical training on emergency response, petrochemical firefighting strategy and tactics, fire protection equipment operations to the Refinery Incident Management Team
- Delivery of technical training on oil spill response and recovery systems to the Oil Spill Response Team
- SME for Process Start-up Safety Reviews (PSSR) for Fire Protection and Emergency Response.
- Co-ordinate the development and updating of quality documents for Fire Protection, Emergency Response and Oil Spill Response (Pre-Fire Plans, Work Instructions, First Strike Plans)
Key skills and experience:
- Experience in Fire Protection, Emergency Response, First Aid Response and Oil Spill Response within the Oil and Gas industry and/or a Major Hazardous Facility.
- Experience in the management of a test, inspect and maintenance program for portable, mobile and fixed Fire Protection systems and equipment, conversant in specialised Fire Protection and Oil Spill Response equipment designs, condition monitoring, equipment failure investigation and analysis.
- Proven ability to think beyond own area to broader business impact, navigating ambiguity for self and team.
- Working knowledge of Oil and Gas fire protection, emergency response and oil spill
- response systems and processes.
- Systemic thinking and applied problem solving to get to root cause.
- Ability to work under pressure during emergency situations.
Desired Qualifications:
- Diploma in Public Safety (Emergency Management) or equivalent.
- Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety.
- Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing or equivalent.
- Course in Advanced Petrochemical Fire Fighting.
- Course in Oil Spill Response - Operational (IMO1 or equivalent).
- Course in Oil Spill Response - Management (IM02 or equivalent).
- Course in the Australian Inter Service Incident Management System (AIMS)
- Certificate in Advanced First aid or equivalent.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent
- QLD Fire Safety Advisor Certificate.
- Certificate in NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Technician or equivalent.
